Manipur Bush Quail
The Manipur Bush Quail or by its native name Lanx-Soibol, Manipuri, is another quail species from the Indian Subcontinent. Can be found mainly along the river Brahmaputra, in Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and West Bengal.
They're inhabiting mainly damp grasslands, especially tall grass and jungles up to about 3000 feet (1000 meters) above sea level.
They're very shy birds, can mostly be seen at dawn and dusk only. For some reason they like wondering around in burned down grassland and after jungle fires.
They nest on the ground in a shallow scraped hole. Lays around 4 greenish-white eggs with brown and black patches.
They feed on various seeds, insects and invertebrates.
The Manipur Bush Quail is an endangered species as their natural habitat is rapidly shrinking in size.
